The Boyd Institute is evolving. We’ve got new energy, a sharper focus, and a new sprint focused on a big issue: the housing crisis.
You may have noticed a new byline on some of our recent articles. I’m excited to welcome
, who’s joining us for a few months and possibly longer. Peter recently stepped away from a PhD program at Stanford Graduate School of Business. He’s in his late 20s, married, and based in Northern Virginia. We met on Substack and noticed some common threads: similar political sensibilities, Stanford ties, and Mormon upbringings. He’s proving to be a valuable thought partner and collaborator. Think of us as an experimental Gen X-Zoomer alliance. With Peter’s help, we’re sharpening the institute’s focus. Rather than playing an inside game in Washington, we’re building a community of “LFG Americans” and like-minded people abroad — people eager to solve problems that matter. Second, we are orienting around building a post-boomer world shaped by technology and generational turnover. Third, we’re doubling down on our unique sprint methodology, focusing on one issue at a time every three or four months. We want to make them more pointed and easier to follow — part Oprah’s book club, part spicy perspectives, part policy lab.
Our next sprint will focus on housing. Historically, our sprint topics have had a national security flavor. This time, we want to explore a thorny domestic issue that materially affects people in our target audience and resonates across the West.
Over the coming months, you will see us experiment with catalyzing a broader conversation about housing, with several aims:
Accessibility — easy to follow along, even parasocially
Content — more essays and new formats, including video
Community — more voices and perspectives, plus an essay contest
Solutions — actionable, creative proposals
I’m grateful to those helping behind the scenes, including our chairman Terry Dunmire and friends like
and Michael Guimarin. In a few months, we’ll see if there’s a path to make the Boyd Institute an enduring institution, or to keep it as a sandbox outlet. If you care about building a future where housing works, join us. Housing is a topic where generational transition and the American dream converge. Subscribe, share, and send ideas — and if you’re able, support us.
